ClockWise® Playing Cards
Subtract fractions with "WAR" : 3rd through 8th graders can immediately compare fractions playing this simple card game: Use the Clockulator poster, lay the cards in their relative position on the clock, and tell which fraction is larger, helping them visualize the true spatial difference between fractions. After a few minutes of getting to know the fractions on the clock, they're ready to declare how much they win by: for example, 7/12 is laid out at the 7:00 position, and 1/3 at the 4:00 position. The winner of that round would say, "7:00 beats 4:00 by 3 hours, which is 1/4", while they are looking at a 90 degree angle of space between 7/12 and 1/3. Next add in the decimals suit, then the percents, and then the degrees suit for the highest level of mastery.
Match equivalents with "Go Fish" : If you have the 1/4 card, ask your neighbor: "Got any 3 O'clocks?"... If they have 0.25, 25% or 90 degrees, that's a match!
